When someone searches for “efoil surf” they usually picture wave surfing… but the eFoil goes a step further: it lets you “surf” without waves, without wind and without paddling. Here is exactly what it is and why it is so addictive in the Bay of Palma.
What does the eFoil have to do with surfing?
An eFoil is a board with an underwater hydrofoil and a silent electric motor. As it picks up speed, the board rises above the water and “flies” without touching the surface. The gliding and carving feel recall surfing, but you do not depend on waves: the thrust comes from the motor, which you control with a wireless remote.
eFoil surf vs. traditional surfing
In classic surfing you need waves and have to paddle for them. With the eFoil any day is a good day: flat sea, no wind, no waiting for sets. For surfers it is a new way to draw lines and glide; for anyone who has never surfed, it is the fastest way to feel that “flight” over the water without years of practice.
Is it hard? Do I need experience?
No previous foil-sport experience is required. Most people start lying down and on their knees, and in the first session already manage to stand up and ride their first metres on the foil. Being comfortable in the water helps. Before heading out we give you a short briefing on speed control and balance.
