Imagine a yoga session at sunrise on the crystal-clear Mediterranean, surrounded by the sound of water and the nature of Mallorca. That is SUP yoga: a practice combining the physical benefits of yoga with the unique environment of being on the water on a paddleboard.
What Is SUP Yoga?
SUP yoga (Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga) involves performing yoga poses on an anchored or calm-water paddleboard. The movement of the water adds a balance challenge that does not exist in land yoga: stabiliser muscles work constantly, intensifying core work and improving proprioception.
Benefits of SUP Yoga
Greater core workout: Water instability forces abdominal and lower back muscles to work continuously to maintain balance, even in simple poses.
Connection with nature: Practising yoga in the open air, with water beneath your feet and open sky above, has a profound meditative effect hard to replicate in a studio.
Stress reduction: The combination of water movement, the sound of the sea and yoga breathing techniques creates a deep state of relaxation.
Improved balance: After several SUP yoga sessions, you will notice significant balance improvements on land too.
Do I Need Prior Experience in Yoga or SUP?
Not essential, but helpful. If you have basic yoga experience, adapting poses to SUP will be easier. Similarly, if you can stand on a paddleboard, SUP yoga will be more accessible. Classes are available for all levels.
