Mallorca is a continuous nautical calendar. If you love water sports — competing or watching — there’s something every month. A guide to the recurring events worth knowing.
Why Mallorca is a nautical hub
Three factors: century-old sailing tradition (Real Club Náutico de Palma since 1948), strong marina infrastructure (Palma, Port d’Andratx, Pollença), and a climate that allows competition 9 months a year.
Classic regattas
- Princesa Sofía Mallorca by Iberostar: Olympic-class international regatta, April. One of the qualifiers for the Games.
- Copa del Rey MAPFRE: August, Palma Bay. The most prestigious cruiser regatta in the Mediterranean.
- Trofeo Almirante Conde de Barcelona: September, classic sail.
- Regata Illes Balears Classics: classic yachts, August.
SUP and open-water crossings
- SUP Race Mallorca: local races in different zones during summer.
- Palma Bay swim crossing: June, mass swim with SUP support.
- Pollensa – Formentor SUP crossing: long-distance event in September, informal but active community.
Boat shows
- Palma International Boat Show: April-May. Biggest boat show in Spain. Yachts, equipment, demos.
- Palma Superyacht Village: parallel, high-end segment.
Foil and eFoil events
Foil doesn’t yet have a strong official calendar in the Balearics, but informal meets happen:
- Brand demos (Waydoo, Lift, Fliteboard) at various points during summer.
- Wingfoil festivals in Palma Bay and Sa Ràpita (no fixed dates).
- Mallorca foil community meetups via Telegram and local groups.
How to join as amateur
Official regatta competition needs a federation sailing licence. SUP crossings usually have open categories with simple registration. Foil meets only need showing up with gear and joining in.
To follow the updated calendar each year:
- Balearic Sailing Federation for official regattas.
- Real Club Náutico de Palma for classic events.
- Instagram and Telegram communities for foil and SUP race.
