Finding activities that both children and adults enjoy equally is not always easy. Paddle surfing has the advantage of being adaptable to all levels and ages: younger children love the sensation of being on the water, while adults get a workout and switch off from daily stress. From What Age Can Children Paddle Surf?
Children can start paddle surfing from around age 6-7, always with adult supervision and in very calm waters. At that age, most are fully capable of standing on the board and enjoying the activity. Younger children (3-6 years) can ride standing or sitting on the board with an adult — an experience they typically adore.
Special Boards for Families
For family outings we recommend large-volume boards (12 feet or more) with a wide width (over 33 inches). These boards are so stable that it is possible to carry a small child sitting or standing while the adult paddles. Inflatable boards are especially recommended for their safety and comfort.
Safety Tips for Family Paddle Surfing
Always use a life jacket for children. Use a leash at all times. Choose calm, shallow waters for the youngest children. Apply high-factor sunscreen and reapply every hour. Before heading out, establish which area is safe to swim in. Do not go out in strong wind or when the beach flies a red flag.
Combined Activities for a Full Day
Paddle surfing combines perfectly with snorkelling (carrying equipment on the board), a picnic at the cove (with food in a waterproof bag), and exploring sea caves from the water. A full day of family adventure without leaving the coast.
